Children’s Dentistry
Children’s dentistry includes all dental related treatment provided for your kids. It is beneficial to begin teaching children good oral hygiene from an early age. Tooth decay among children is unfortunately common, so it is becoming increasingly important to help educate on good oral health behaviours.
We understand going to the dentist can be daunting, not only for children, but for adults too. We want children to feel comfortable and at ease while visiting the dentist. The Australian dental association recommends children begin seeing the dentist from 12 months of age. This allows children to become familiar with the dental environment and encourages building a positive, trusting experience with the dentist.
Although kids have baby teeth which generally fall out to make way for permanent adult teeth, it is important to care for them just the same. Brushing kids teeth twice a day and regular flossing is recommended.
At Southport Park Family Dental we aim to make kids feel as comfortable as possible when they come for their dental visit. We have iPads in the waiting room, noise-cancelling headphones, Netflix, toys and goodie bags and these are all available to children when they come into the practice. There are also after-school and Saturday appointments available if this is most convenient for you.
Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a Medicare funded Scheme. It allows eligible children aged between 2 and 18 to receive up to $1052 worth of dental treatment over a 2-year calendar period. This can be used for check-ups and cleans, fillings, x-rays, extractions, and root canals. At Southport Park Family Dental we can bulk bill under this scheme, so you won’t have to pay any out of pocket expenses if you are eligible.
If you are unsure if your child is eligible, come in and our friendly team can check for you on the spot or you are more than welcome to give us a call on (07) 5655 7688.
